Japanese Lantern Yukimi Style
December 22, 2011
The snow viewing, or yukimi, style Japanese lantern is a wonderful lantern. This lantern received its name from the cap, or roof, of the piece that is much broader than other lantern styles. This cap is either round, hexagon or octagon in shape and because of its size looks quite pretty after snow fall. This lantern has no shaft and instead stands on four legs, but can also be found with three or six. This style lantern first appeared in Japan during the Edo period.
We installed this lantern along a pathway within a Japanese garden project.
